2009 SAFLA Spring Workshop

Collaboration Technology

Office Live

Go to http://workspace.office.live.com

Sign-in with the same e-mail you used at the SAFLA workshop.

In the left pane, click on the SAFLA Practice workspace in the Shared With Me section

Once the SAFLA Practice workspace is open in the body of the webpage, click on the Practice document to open it.

Once the Practice document is, you will see big icons in the upper right Corner of the SAFLA Practice workspace:

Edit       Save as             Version             Share                 Comment          Activity             Close

Click on Edit.  For those of you who have administrative rights on their computer, this will install the Office Live Add In

(Follow the prompts & click Yes, OK, or Accept in each pop-up until the Practice document opens in Word.)

This will allow you to:

Open, edit & save documents directly in Word from Office Live and vice versa, if the Workspace creator has granted you editing rights.

Indeed, he or she can grant individuals outside of the workgroup Reading rights only. Readers can make comments (click on Comment) but cannot directly edit the document.

If the Add In doesn’t install, write a tech work order –If you cannot or in the meantime, you can participate in the work of your committee within the Office Live workspace, since it is a Web-based application.

Committee chairs should each create a workspace for their committee and grant editing rights to its members.

Other SAFLA members should be granted reading rights when a committee is ready to submit its work, seeks comments and/or suggestions, has questions, etc.

Yahoo! Discussion Group

In order to communicate with a wider number of members (some didn’t attend the workshop; some won’t use office Live), post your documents, questions, etc. on the SAFLA discussion group on Yahoo!

This is not suited, however, for one-on-one or private communications.

Netiquette: When replying to a message, make sure you select Reply if your comment is directed to the sender only or Reply All if it is directed to the whole group.

Go to http://www.yahoo.com

In the left pane, click on Groups. If SAFLA is listed as one of your groups, click on that link. If not, type “SAFLA” in the Search box and press enter (or click “SEARCH”). If you haven’t yet enrolled in the group, enter the necessary information and submit your request (if you don’t have one already, you will need a free Yahoo! e-mail address to join the SAFLA discussion group).  Then, write me at mhallot@yahoo.com to insure a timely approval of your request.

Shortcut: Enrolled members can go directly to the discussion group, click on and bookmark the following link:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/safla (you will have to login with your yahoo name and passwords).

Microsoft Shared View

It you are having trouble setting up any of the above, e-mail me (mhallot@yahoo.com) to set up a time for technical assistance.

Please download & install Microsoft Shared View (click on Run, not Save, in the downward window): http://www.connect.microsoft.com/content/content.aspx?ContentID=6415&SiteID=94

Once installed, you do not have to start it. I will take you over the steps on the phone (speakerphone preferred).  This will allow me to take your computer over remotely, for the time of the session only, and you will be able to see everything I do. If you don’t feel comfortable with that, you can seek help on your own (Help files, support section of product websites, etc.)

Note: If you are a member of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee, e-mail Chris Becnel instead. He will also be able using assist you through Microsoft Shared View.
